BEST TIP FOR IMMEDIATE IMPROVEMENT IN ENGLISH COMPOSITIONS

Have you ever wondered how wonderful it would be if you simply possessed that magic formula for writing? And your world just changed?

Remember Alice in Wonderland? Her world literally changed because, well….she fell down a rabbit hole. Let’s look at Alice in a deeper way. She found a world which was the exact opposite of hers. Everything seemed mad and unnatural but there was a method in that madness. Why? After some time of running around she finally found that the characters were a reflection of her own word but in a more crazy way, of course.

Her world changed? Or did she change? That is the point.

In order to effect any change…you have to change yourself.

No, not literally like Alice but you will have to start looking at things from a different perspective.

All I’m saying is that you will have to look at everything from a fresh, new angle.

Now, how in the world am I going to look at things from a fresh, new angle when I don’t even know what that is, you may be saying.

Hold on.

That’s what this blog is for. I am here to tell you that if you change the way you are looking at things and writing, then you will change your angle. That is the best tip for improving in your writing instantaneously.

Let me give you an example.

If you are always starting your argumentative essays by relying on a Hook which goes like this-

Q. Is recycling the best way to slow down climate change?

Yes, recycling is the best way to slow down climate change.

PLEASE avoid starting your essay like this. This is not a quiz. You are writing a grand opening Hook for an argumentative essay. It’s like announcing the climax even before you have started the Introduction.

And besides, it is downright Boring.

Once you announce your intention without even stating your appraisal of the question, what is left? You have already given the dessert, the true excitement away even before you have started. Remember this, - you have to leave something for the end.

Then, how do you start? What is the best way?

Start like this. A timeline or a general truth which mentions the way people are reacting to climate change today. Start with the key words ‘climate change.’

Climate change is prevalent in our world today due to many reasons. One is that the rate of technology has trebled and doubled beyond our wildest dreams. And the second is that we have been negligent of the way we have treated our planet, Earth.

This is a great way to start because you have mentioned the reason for climate change. The way it all began. This can be a Timeline way of starting as you are tracing back to the way it all began. Then, mentioning that there are 2 reasons makes it easier for you to mention evidence relating to both these points later. It makes your job easier. And it also prepares the reader for the eventual outcome where you are going to say that recycling is one of the better ways of ensuring that climate change is slowed down.

Writing like this not only means that you are effectively managing your essay BUT, it means that you have a STYLISH way of writing.

In just one step, you have found a way to impact your reader with a fresh new angle.

And this is what writing with a fresh new angle is all about.

Many students have pored over the task of finding that wonderful, beautiful, captivating HOOK to start an essay but it is essentially all about relating the question to what is going on in the world today.

This is my RECIPIE for a fresh new angle and an IMMEDIATE IMPROVEMENT

1 part – relating to the way the world is today with regards to your Q

1 part – infusing it with a fresh new angle eg having 2 ways of looking at it.

NO part – answering the question as if you were in K2.

And I have to stress that you should never try to use bombastic words when you are writing your fresh new angle. The words should flow on, be simple and effective. In other words, use your most used vocabulary words but make sure that it relates to the key words in the question. That is part of your angle. Never stray from the main point. Be clear and firm in your statement. The hook is a testament of what is to come. It is a reflection of the way the essay will turn out and it gives the reader the promise of greater things to come.

What is the next step in making sure that you write with a fresh new angle and improve instantaneously? Practice.

Start practising now and make sure that you have the formula at your fingertips. This is the best formula which I have been teaching my students at Wizpals for 30 years. It works. Make sure it works for you.
